Florida rapper Rod Wave allegedly strangled his ex-girlfriend in front of their children because he suspected her of talking to other men, according to reports.
The rising rhymer was arrested on an assault warrant from 2021 during a traffic stop earlier this month, just as his new album was due for release.
Petersburg police say Wave, 23, drove to his ex-girlfriend’s home in Osceola County and angrily accused her of seeing other men. The couple were not in a relationship at the time, the woman told cops.
He then allegedly attacked her in front of their two children, strangling her until she could not breathe.
Wave left the scene and returned to accuse him of stealing his cell phone and damaging property before leaving, authorities said.
The woman called 911 and responding cops found marks on her neck, according to reports. She refused medical treatment.
Wave, real name Rodarius Green, pleaded not guilty to assault and announced he was delaying the release of his record until June.
Records show Green has been arrested multiple times before, including in a 2018 weapons case.
The rapper has amassed over 4 million YouTube subscribers and is considered a pioneer of the “soul-trap” rhyming style.
