Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) spoke about the issue at the House Democrats caucus meeting Wednesday morning. Immigration advocates are pressuring the administration to stay the course. And Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), Escobar and three other House Democrats will hold a press conference Thursday in support of Biden’s approach.
Escobar, who represents a border district, said she was concerned about the “unsustainable” number of migrants seeking to cross the border. But leaving Title 42 in place any longer, she said, is not the answer.
“We tried the Republican strategy,” Escobar said. “The Republican strategy has been to build walls and harden the border. It did not work.”
