Amazon has announced that its two Australian-based solar farms are now operational and supplying clean energy to the Australian grid.

The solar farms, based in the New South Wales region – one in Gunnedah and the other in Suntop – are expected to generate 392,000 MWh of renewable energy each year, which Amazon says is equivalent to the consumption 63,000 Australian households annually. .

The company is also building a wind farm in the regional Victorian town of Hawkesdale. Amazon said once operational, the wind farm will increase the company’s combined annual renewable energy output to 717,000 MWh, enough to power 115,000 Australian homes.

Amazon has first committed to all three renewable energy projects in Australia in 2020.

Once operational, Amazon expects the 310 projects to produce 42,000 gigawatt hours of renewable energy per year.

Meanwhile, Sony has announced it wants to accelerate its achievement of carbon neutrality across the entire 10-year value chain from 2050 to 2040, as well as its goal of reaching 100% renewable energy in its own manufacturing operations. a decade from 2040 to 2030. .

According to the company, it will accelerate the achievement of these goals by further accelerating the installation of solar power generation equipment, introducing renewable energy into the group, accelerating initiatives to reduce annual energy consumption by Sony product, working with business partners to manage their greenhouse gas emissions. and help eliminate carbon by investing in startups committed to eliminating carbon.

“As the risks of climate change become increasingly apparent and severe around the world, and the transition to a decarbonized society has become an urgent issue, Sony has taken the decision to accelerate its climate change activities. environmental impact in the area of climate change and bring forward the target year to achieve a zero environmental footprint in this area within ten years,” Sony said.
