- If there is no sound on your iPhone, there are a number of possible causes.
- Make sure your phone’s ringer switch is not set to silent and turn off all focus modes in the control center.
- You can also make sure the audio is not routed to a nearby Bluetooth device.
Can’t hear anything on your iPhone? This is a more common problem than you might think because there are so many things that can go wrong, preventing your audio from working properly. Here are seven of the most common ways to fix no sound on your iPhone.
Make sure your iPhone is not muted
This may seem obvious to some, but it’s easy to overlook if you’re confused as to why no sound is coming out of your iPhone – make sure the Ring/Silent switch, commonly referred to as the mute button – is not set to silent. If the switch is in the down position and you can see red, the sound is muted.
Disable all focus modes
Apple’s latest iteration of Do Not Disturb includes a sometimes confusing array of so-called focus modes that can minimize distractions when trying to get work done. But it can also be confusing at times and prevent sound from playing when you expect it to. Open the Control center (on most iPhones, swipe down from the top right) and check the Focus icon. If he says anything other than Focustap the icon to turn it off.
Adjust the volume in the app
The sound may be too low to hear, so start the app you’re trying to use, then use the Volume buttons on the side of the phone to make sure it is activated.
Disable all Bluetooth devices
Your iPhone may still be securely connected to a
audio device such as a Bluetooth speaker or headphones too far away to be heard. The easiest way to ensure that this is not the case is to simply disable Bluetooth completely, at least temporarily. Open the Control center (on most iPhones, swipe down from the top right) and tap the Bluetooth icon to turn off the Bluetooth radio. This will free all Bluetooth devices and force the iPhone to use its own built-in speaker.
Make sure your speakers aren’t blocked
It’s possible that some sort of physical obstruction is cutting off the sound enough that you can’t hear it. If your phone has a case or screen protector, remove it, especially if it’s covering the phone’s speakers. Then inspect the speaker to see if it is possibly blocked or cut by dirt or debris. If so, clean the speakers thoroughly.
Restart your iPhone
It’s possible that a software glitch is preventing your iPhone from playing audio properly. The easiest way to fix the remaining issues is to restart your iPhone, i.e. turn your phone off and then turn it back on. In many cases, your phone will work fine when restarted.
Check sound settings
If your iPhone still has no sound even after the previous troubleshooting steps and restarting the phone, check your sound settings.
1. Start the Settings application.
2. Faucet Sounds and Haptics.
3. In the Ringtone and alerts section, drag the slider left and right. You should hear a sound.
